Mr. Derrick Maxey | Director of Bands

Graduate of The Ohio State University, Mr. Maxey is currently in his 17th year as band director in the Minerva Local School District. A native of the Mansfield, Ohio area and an alumni of Lexington High School, Mr. Maxey was hired in 2005 as Assistant Director of Bands. In 2006, he was named Head Marching Band Director, followed by Director of Bands in 2009. In 2009, Mr. Maxey also completed his Master’s in Music Education at Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois.

Under the direction of Mr. Maxey, the Minerva Local Schools concert bands have received countless Excellent and Superior Ratings at Regional and State Ohio Music Education Association events.

Mr. Maxey is an avid trombonist and has performed locally in the Kent State University Stark Concert Band, The Brass Band of The Western Reserve, and The John Trapani Big Band.

Mr. Derrick Maxey resides with his wife Kirsten and four children Adelaide, Mia, Theo and Thaddeus Maxey in nearby Louisville, Ohio.
